History is tops on our favorite subject in our home and school. I added a second major of History while I was doing Elementary Education. I love History that much. But cramming level 4000 classes into a summer session where you were reading the original writings of Revolutionary War leaders and writing 20 page papers on them to be torn apart verbally in front of the class so you could defend them is enough to take the love of History right out of you. I had History phobia for a while after that class earning my degree.
But, it wasn’t long until I was back to fully loving my favorite subject and thankfully that love has been passed on to my boys. Our house is overflowing with books…mostly history books. Having a homeschool store with used books only adds to my collection. When I see an old book about History…I have a hard time walking by.
So, I was thrilled when I had the opportunity to review Heritage History. Great literature and curriculum on a CD ~ how neat is that? I admit that I do love having an old book to curl up on the couch with, but this is a great way to read all those old books.
Heritage History is a literature based curriculum that encourages the enjoyment of History, not just the learning of it.. Heritage History has looked through thousands of text and organized them to be used in your family. Many classic books that have been out of print have been brought back to life. I love to find resources and curriculums that bring History to life instead of boring you to tears.
We were given the opportunity to review the Young Readers Curriculum and Early America Library as part of iHomeschool Network.
The Young Readers Curriculum contains 86 books, timeline, study guide, maps, images and can be used as a stand alone curriculum or added as a supplement to another curriculum. It includes many short stories, as well as Biblical stories. The Early America Library has over 80 books and sells for $19.99 or can be bought individually for $1.99. It covers the founding of the British Colonies in America to World War I.
In a time when History is being rewritten and sugar coated and changed to be “politically correct”, we desperately need Heritage History to pass on to our children. They need to read the truth and enjoy the stories when men were men and women were women. It is important for my sons to read stories of heroes that spark their warrior hearts.
Benefits of Heritage History:
- Provides a traditional narrative history that works well with a living books or Charlotte Mason style education.

-
Each of the 5 curriculum cd’s contain study guides, maps, timelines and copy-ready images from the books.

There are 4 libraries to choose from and includes biographies, hero stories, historical literature and military history. It is not intended as a complete curriculum.
- Very economical way to enhance learning and improve History studies in your home.
How We Use Heritage History:
We currently use Trail Guide to Learning in our curriculum this year. The cds we reviewed tie in perfectly with our topic. We enjoy using them as read alouds and then my oldest uses them as independent reading. It is a great way to grow vocabulary and create dialogue and read real books about history that tell the true story. It is neat to think that these books might have been read by previous generations in our family.
