Today’s post is by my good friend and business associate, Kayla Howard…

Single tulip in the dry desert. Bright red flower.

Look around you.  Can you name at least one person who has persevered through and received a reward for something that looks pretty awesome?

Did they lose weight and get in shape and totally transform their body?  Did they start building their business at the same time as you, and now their business is flourishing, and yours is well…. non-existent?  Did they commit to paying off debt and living frugally and are now enjoying a debt free home?

Four years ago I started building a website. Not because I’m a graphic designer, tech genius, or even because I wanted a website. I built it rather, because I had a dream and a vision for taking my business online.  Today I am enjoying the fruit of that labor as an income that matches my husband’s, deep friendships with amazing women, meeting new people daily, and so much more. Because of this success, people frequently ask me about it how I built my business.

As I consider my answer, I look into their eyes and I can see what they are thinking, “she’s just a normal person, nothing super unique…if she can do it, so can I” –but I feel a little twinge of pain deep down inside because I know the truth ~ most people will not persevere to the end of a venture.  A lot of people want easy reward without the years of being faithful that is required to receive it.

Yes, you CAN do it too, because the truth is, I’m not special, and I’m not any different than you.  But are you willing to actually do it?

Perseverance is actually defined as: “steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.”

It is my absolute promise that you will have a “delay” in seeing success when you begin an important venture. Very, very few people have overnight stunning successes. [tweetthis]Reward is built by the daily choices[/tweetthis]. The tiny, meniscal choices…the things you spend 5 minutes doing. Literally.

Remember when you look at someone who has an amazing reward, they made choices and stuck with their commitments thousands of times over, when they didn’t feel like it.

Yes, when they didn’t feel like it.

Perseverance is a character quality that successful people have. And the truth is, you have it too. There are things that you faithfully do, each and everyday. Do you change your babies diaper every time it’s dirty? Do you make dinner for your family, even when you’re tired? Do you wash the laundry ensuring your family has clean clothes, even when you’d rather read a good book?

Congratulations! You have the character qualities to be successful!

And I might add, you already are successful as a mother, wife, young women learning, dad—or whatever your position in life is at this moment.

What is that thing that you really want to succeed at right now? Find 5 minutes that you can spend each day working on that goal. 5 minutes per day works out out to 30 hours in a year. You will have a big reward for 30 hours of focused work.

Most of my business was built on 2-3 hours of work per day, day after day, for 4 years and continuing to this day.

You are not the hare—you are the turtle and you will win the race!
